What happens during the Crystalens® procedure?

Surgery to implant Crystalens® is very similar to cataract surgery and occurs on an outpatient basis.

  • Dr. Carter will numb your operative eye and create a tiny incision
  • He’ll gently remove your eye’s natural lens using an ultrasound technique
  • Once the natural lens is removed, the Crystalens® implant is put in its place
  • Because the incision is so small, stitches are usually not needed and healing time is quick

The result 20 minutes later is an accommodative lens that allows your eyes to focus on near, far and everything in-between.
