What is Wavefront technology?
LASIK Questions
Wavefront technology has been used by astronomers on telescopes for many years but recently has been adapted for use on human eyes. By sending light into the eyes and measuring the light that reflects back to the computer, discrepancies are precisely measured. These discrepancies between what was sent and what bounces back are aberrations in your vision, i.e., distortions created by the irregular shape of your cornea or other parts of your eye.
This information is converted into mathematical expression, and the computer builds a 3-D map of your eyes.
The wavefront technology can measure not only lower-order aberrations like nearsightedness and farsightedness, but also the higher-order aberrations, which can create visual problems such as halos, ghosting and starbursts.
